UN Sustainable Development Goals, commonly known as SDG’s, are a set of 17 individual goals with specific targets and indicators. The goals guide us to a more inclusive, just, and sustainable world by 2030.

September 25 marks the 8th anniversary of the Agenda 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. On this day we are raising the SDG flag to show our commitment and continued support for the SDGs. Islet has chosen to focus on the following SDG’s:

• Gender Equality

• Responsible consumption and production

• Climate Action

5 GENDER EQUALITY

“Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”

One of our diversity goals is to “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”. We monitor our progress closely and communicate it transparently – especially since we still lack women in technology industry globally and in Finland for example nationality-based diversity is relatively low in general. As we know, diversity is a lot more than a gender question and therefore we have targets equally for nationality-based diversity, “Fresh Faces” ratio (new graduates and career changers) and for age diversity, for example. Equality, diversity and inclusion are at core when we build teams at Islet.

“We are striving to make the world a better place with the latest technologies. We don’t just speak kindly – our values are actions.”
Eriika Hiltunen

Chief People Officer, Islet Group

We have also teamed up with for example SAP and Mimmit Koodaa to make our industry and teams more diverse:

12 RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION

“Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns”

As a technology organization we are responsible for our actions, but the biggest impact is achieved together with our customers. We support our customers in their journey towards more responsible consumption and production with the help of technology and accurate real time data and analytics.

Islet internally strives to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. This in practice means:

  • Striving to minimize purchasing and consumption overall
  • Preferring recycled and used, secondhand products and materials
  • Always purchasing ecologically produced and recyclable products and services and organic farming products and services, preferably produced locally
  • Trying to minimize the carbon footprint on all purchases
  • Recycling everything possible
  • Becoming carbon neutral this year

13 CLIMATE ACTION

“Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts”

Islet takes Climate Action through rigorous waste recycling at offices and raising awareness. We strive to reduce carbon emissions and aim to compensate all our historical emissions by 2030. We are also working on a sustainability framework for technology projects that we start to apply in 2024. Islet co-organizes and partakes in annual campaigns and events to raise funds and awareness to climate action causes, with special focus on the Baltic Sea (i.e. annual #IsletGoesItämeri campaign). Climate action has been woven into the Islet value landscape and is present in company actions and communications.

The SDGs build on decades of work by countries and the UN, including the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. More information on all the Sustainable Development Goals here: https://sdgs.un.org/goals
