Step 1: 

This part of the challenge is for you if you are interested in user interface design. The challenge takes you through the different steps of concepting, wireframing, prototyping and testing the design and gives great insight to user interface design within application development.

The goal is to design application user interface for a Baltic Sea protection campaign and provide a way to collect funds for charity. The winning design will be used in the application development phase and will be published in the #isletgoesitämeri Baltic Sea protection campaign.

The course consists of a shared workshop, hands-on exercises and the attendees will receive feedback on the designs.

Each attendee will get to know the fundamentals of UI design steps, learn the basics of application wireframing and receive an Islet certificate for completing the course.

Step 2: 

This part of the challenge is for you if you are interested in application coding. Take up the challenge and develop a web application for a Baltic Sea protection campaign!

In this challenge you will develop a web application from a UI prototype, learn how to use UI frameworks, deploy the application to cloud platform and get to use APIs for posting application data. The application is developed using Javascript and other standard web technologies.

After the kick-off workshop, each attendee will receive a step-by-step tutorial for developing the application and an option to choose the difficulty level based on pre-written code snippets.

Each attendee will get to know how to build and deploy a web application to a cloud platform and understand the basics of web development and UI frameworks. Each participant will receive an Islet certificate for completing the course.

Prerequisites: General understanding of web development will be helpful but not required

All materials are in English, but the trainers are also available in Finnish. Studying is independent, but supported by a Slack channel where participants can discuss with each other and ask for help from the trainers.
