Lumene’s AI solution delivers greater efficiency and consistency to content management

Lumene decided to solve the challenge with the help of artificial intelligence by developing its own AI solution in stages. The goal was to enhance the discoverability and reliability of information while automating content production in a way that supports the brand. Islet Group was selected as a partner in this journey, bringing extensive experience in generative AI, Microsoft technologies, and the knowledge of the unique aspects of Lumene’s industry.

 

Knowledge-based management with AI – product search and comparison in Teams

In the first phase, Lumene wanted to provide employees in different roles with an effective tool for searching and analyzing product-related information. The solution developed was an Agent integrated into Microsoft Teams, i.e., an AI chatbot that acts as a conversation-based interface to Lumene’s product database for the user.

The agent understands questions asked in natural language, enabling users to search for product information using EAN code, compare different items, list product groups, or find out detailed information such as active ingredients, intended use, or package sizes. In addition, as a completely new kind of functionality, the solution can be used to search for suitable products freely by describing the intended use, user and other features. The agent answers naturally and accurately to even difficult questions such as “Which product would be suitable for the skin care of an environmentally conscious young person with sensitive skin? ”

The solution is based on Islet’s Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture, in which directs user’s questions to a search index containing product information through Azure Prompt Flow. The search is combined with generative AI, which compiles the answers based on facts. The solution is thus integrated into Lumene’s product information management system. The accuracy and transparency of the agent’s answers were ensured by extensive validation of the answers as part of the development work. In addition, the Agent validates its own answers before giving the final answer to the user.

 

Automatic product descriptions – in line with brand tone and in different languages

In the second phase, Lumene expanded the use of the AI solution to create product texts. Previously, product descriptions had to be produced manually and adapted separately to the needs of different retailers and markets. This work was slow, subject to errors and resource-consuming.

With the new solution, product descriptions are generated automatically based on a product description template, accurate product information, instructions provided by the user and Lumene’s tone-of-voice materials. For example, the user can request a product description in German for a specific product code through Teams, which specifically emphasizes the product’s suitability for sensitive skin. The user can further refine the product description with the Agent, requesting changes, development suggestions or other language versions with different emphases. The texts are consistent, brand-compliant and the solution supports the creation of descriptions in different languages.

 

Benefits include time savings, accuracy, and consistency in communication

The AI solution has brought significant benefits to Lumene’s internal work. Searching for product information is faster and more reliable. Product descriptions no longer need to be written from scratch, but are created in generated in a matter of seconds, always in line with the brand. This saves resources, reduces errors, and improves the quality of content production. In addition, a foundation has been laid for the creation of the next AI capabilities and agents on a centralized AI platform.
