Islet Group was involved in developing a work time application for KEHA Center, which simplifies the working time logging process and improves user experience. The application was developed in collaboration with Microsoft as part of the modern digital work environment renewal project.
The Development and Administrative Center for ELY Centers (KEHA Center) is a national agency with a staff of approximately 800 experts across Finland. The employees of KEHA and ELY Centers, numbering about 3700, log their working time several times in a workday. The government administration’s eKieku-application was particularly challenging and time-consuming when logging hours on work phones, as technical issues hindered smooth usage.
A solution was found when KEHA Center tested Power Apps development in conjunction with building Microsoft’s Power Platform management model. One of the chosen low-code pilot targets was the challenging time logging process.
Mika Vahala, Lead Specialist from KEHA Center’s Information and Digitalization division, explains the problem: “The time logging event itself is simple, but each person signs in/out four times a day, i.e., in the morning, during lunch, and in the afternoon. When there are thousands of people, it means a significant use of time each day.”
The staff of KEHA Center and ELY Centers have adopted the new work time application enthusiastically. The new Power Apps application does not require a VPN connection, eliminating one intermediate step in mobile use, making time logging faster and easier. The application works not only on workstation browsers but also on Android and iOS mobile devices.
The app was implemented in KEHA Center’s Information and Digitalization division in collaboration with Microsoft and Islet, as part of the digital working environment renewal.
This innovative solution not only saves time but also improves user experience and employee satisfaction. The implementation of the application is a testament to KEHA Center’s commitment to creating a modern and efficient work environment that supports the organization’s goals and enhances overall productivity.
Benefits of the solution:
- Time saving: The duration of time logging has significantly shortened.
- Ease of use: A simple user interface and smooth operation make the app user-friendly.
- Optional: The new app works alongside eKieku time logging, which provides an alternative in case of any disruptions.
- Reliability: The app operates stably and has received positive feedback from users.
The most important aspect of developing the work time application was combining technological agility with user-centric design. The new solution addresses everyday challenges and brings concrete benefits, such as time savings and improved user experience, to its wide user base. This is an excellent example of how data-driven development and modern low-code tools can enhance public sector operations. Even with a relatively small investment, significant savings can be achieved, along with increased efficiency and work satisfaction.
