Step 1: 

This part of the chal­lenge is for you if you are inter­est­ed in user inter­face design. The chal­lenge takes you through the dif­fer­ent steps of con­cept­ing, wire­fram­ing, pro­to­typ­ing and test­ing the design and gives great insight to user inter­face design with­in appli­ca­tion development.

The goal is to design appli­ca­tion user inter­face for a Baltic Sea pro­tec­tion cam­paign and pro­vide a way to col­lect funds for char­i­ty. The win­ning design will be used in the appli­ca­tion devel­op­ment phase and will be pub­lished in the #islet­goe­sitämeri Baltic Sea pro­tec­tion campaign.

The course con­sists of a shared work­shop, hands-on exer­cis­es and the atten­dees will receive feed­back on the designs.

Each attendee will get to know the fun­da­men­tals of UI design steps, learn the basics of appli­ca­tion wire­fram­ing and receive an Islet cer­tifi­cate for com­plet­ing the course.

Step 2: 

This part of the chal­lenge is for you if you are inter­est­ed in appli­ca­tion cod­ing. Take up the chal­lenge and devel­op a web appli­ca­tion for a Baltic Sea pro­tec­tion campaign!

In this chal­lenge you will devel­op a web appli­ca­tion from a UI pro­to­type, learn how to use UI frame­works, deploy the appli­ca­tion to cloud plat­form and get to use APIs for post­ing appli­ca­tion data. The appli­ca­tion is devel­oped using Javascript and oth­er stan­dard web technologies.

After the kick-off work­shop, each attendee will receive a step-by-step tuto­r­i­al for devel­op­ing the appli­ca­tion and an option to choose the dif­fi­cul­ty lev­el based on pre-writ­ten code snippets.

Each attendee will get to know how to build and deploy a web appli­ca­tion to a cloud plat­form and under­stand the basics of web devel­op­ment and UI frame­works. Each par­tic­i­pant will receive an Islet cer­tifi­cate for com­plet­ing the course.

Pre­req­ui­sites: Gen­er­al under­stand­ing of web devel­op­ment will be help­ful but not required 

All mate­ri­als are in Eng­lish, but the train­ers are also avail­able in Finnish. Study­ing is inde­pen­dent, but sup­port­ed by a Slack chan­nel where par­tic­i­pants can dis­cuss with each oth­er and ask for help from the trainers.
